Mistral BPC

The Mistral and Tonnerre BPC (bâtiment de projection et de commandement) ships, are the French Navy's new 21,300t amphibious assault, command and power projection ships. The Mistral is currently docked next to us and this morning I had the oppportunity to have a very interesting tour around this huge warship. The ship was ingenious; being able to carry out a wide range of missions - a helicopter carrier, amphibious assault ship, command and control, and a hospital ship too. all in one 199m long, 21600 tonnes when fully loaded, 180 crew, with space for 640 troops fully electric beast!

we are close neighbours in the port....Africa Mercy on the right, Mistral on the left, with the lovely african security huts inbetween, plus their sleeping policemen on duty! Thanks to your gurkas who keep us safe :)
