being more cultural this time so rather than hiking, we did a canopy walk in the Kakum national park. walking on rope bridges through the canopy of the rainforest.
following our jungle adventure we got back into our bright green van and headed down to the coast, to Cape Coast itself and had a tour around the slave castle, visiting the male and female dungeons and going through the door of no return.
then once again back into the green van and we headed to the capital city of Accra to find our accommodation for the night. Travelling through the streets really wasn't anything like the Africa that i have experienced already. miles of dual carriageways, street lights, traffic lights, restaurants of the western variety, even a shopping mall with food court and cinema. it was all a little bit too much like home, but still surrounded by the humidity of Africa; culture shock right there surrounding me and i wasn't even home yet!
so after a lovely nights sleep we headed further east again, via an arts market in the centre of the city, passing the new presidential palace on the way to the Keta Lagoon, where we relaxed for the rest of the day.
with the lagoon on one side of the huts and the roaring ocean on the other. as our afternoon was drawing to a close a rainy season storm rushed in over the ocean, but we made it back to our green van before the torrential rain hit us!
all in all in was another wonderful weekend away from the confinement of the ship, experiencing another area of another country amongst friends! thankyou x
