well my three night shifts went really well. they were all quite busy, but everything was done that needed to be done. i even had the opportunity each night to sit quietly on a chair in the middle of the ward, surrounded by beautiful sleeping women feeling reflecting and knowing how privileged i am to be here. time and time again each day, it amazes me that i am actually here. after the year of praying, planning and waiting; i am living and serving God on a hospital ship in one of the poorest nations on earth.
the women on the ward all had their own story to tell prior to this night, but for now they had all been led to the africa mercy, most had received surgery, (or were receiving the following day) and the journey of healing was taking place; physical, spiritual and emotional healing. Hope reborn, knowing that life as they know it will not be the same again - rejection and embarrasment fallen away, replaced by joy, hope and renewal.
yesterday and today, apart from sleeping off the nights i have been up to some lovely things. tried to visit the tailor yesterday afternoon, but after a very hot and sweaty walk he wasn't in his shop (we didnt remember it was siesta time!) so will try again on thursday.
today i have spent a wonderful day in Babs dock. the description from others was a little bit of paradise. and it was; palm trees, water, hammocks, sunshine, sailing boats, canoes. had a tasty lunch, a great sail and lots of relaxation time.
the drive there was bumpy sitting in the back of an old landrover, with a sandy road and lots of muddy water filled potholes; then there was a short boat ride through a swampy forest until we emerged out onto an open lake and across to this place called Babs dock - a beach/restaurant/chillout place - will post some photos for u all to visualise!
