JUST WANTED TO POST THIS ... I WROTE IT DURING THE FLIGHT OVER.
Well here I am 360000ft above sea level flying over some awesome scenes.
The familiar sights of England stretch away in front of me, tears pricking the back of my eyes and one whopper lump in my throat - only to be taken into sights that are precious and rarely seen. (unless you are a frequent flyer!)
Clouds stretching for as far as the human eye can see. White most of the time, bouncing almost, sculptured by a perfect hand, the covering of all that lies beneath. Sometimes light, fluffy, whispy, sometimes grey, thundery, stormy.
The desert; hours and hours pass of red sand, stretching all around, dunes so big they are visible from my little window. The clouds casting shadows over the parched roasting ground. Looking out, the haze of the horizon diffusing upwards into the deep richness of the heavens.
The moon, stretching out full, has just appeared into my view, a mosaic covering as is always there, looking almost translucent from the brightness of the sunlight around it.
Darkness is beginning to fall, like a dark curtain moving across the ground following the plane. the sun is setting fast, falling from the sky.
Then I was taken to the Bible, psalm 113...
"Praise the Lord.
Praise, O servants of the Lord
Praise the name of the Lord.
Let the name of the Lord be praised,
Both now and for evermore.
From the rising of the sun, to the place where it sets,
The name of the Lord is to be praised.
The Lord is exalted over all the nations,
His glory above the heavens.
Who is there like the Lord our God,
The One who sits enthroned on high,
Who stoops down to look
On the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
And lifts the needy from the ash heap;
He seats them with princes,
With the princes of their people.
He settles the barren woman in her home
As a happy mother of children.
Praise the Lord."
Jesus is exalted above the heavens, over the nations and all that lies beneath me. He sits in majesty enthroned on high, yet stoops down in his endless mercy to look on the heavens and the earth. In his ultimate grace he raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap. Undeserving me, lifted from the dust…a sinner, undeserving, but now accepted and drawn near.
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. (Psalm 115:1)
