after a busy weekend working in the icu, it was lovely to have a day off today and to have a long lie in...didn't wake up till 11.30!!!! after a lovely coffee with rachel and great girly chat; i headed over to the fabric market across town with Eva and Daniella. lots of crew have african outfits and seeing im here for rather a while i thought it would be nice to try and get one too. so starting from scratch with purchasing fabric!
it was a busy busy afternoon at the market; everyone going about their business, going to and fro up and down this one street. being a very hot day, the sweat was pouring off us and dust sticking to our feet. so a novel drink - skinning an orange (they are green oranges here) and then cutting the top off, creates a fab way of drinking the juice and quenching your thirst! the green, thirst quenching oranges are being sold by the basket full at the side of the street.
i did buy 6 yards of fabric - for 4500cfa and hope to find a 'tailor' sometime soon! there are a few around, some even visit the ship for business. the fabric design is the picture that i am wrapping fabric around me - its red, blue, white, green in bright bold prints. just what i had in my mind and similar to what all the women are wearing around here!
for those of u who have been asking - i did mistakenly fail to say the result of the football game. it was 1-0 to benin. the goal happening after the final whistle, during injury time!! so after a rather long, hot afternoon with no score the stadium erupted with deafening cheering :)
